From May 7 to September 15, 2025, a thematic exhibition from the museum’s collection dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Aleksandrs Čaks Museum will be on display at the Aleksandrs Čaks Museum, located at Lāčplēša Street 48-8.
Every house and apartment has its own history. The apartment of the Latvian poet Aleksandrs Čaks in Riga, at Lāčplēša Street 48-8, has its own story. It is located in a rental building with shops, built in 1913 as the property of banker Johans Romans, which was later inherited by his successors.
Aleksandrs Čaks Museum was established by a decision of the Riga City Council at the poet’s last place of residence, where he lived from 1937 until his death in 1950.
For fifty years, the poet’s furniture, library, valuable artworks, household items, photographs, manuscripts, clothing, and textiles have been uniquely preserved. The apartment retains a special aura that reflects the poet’s works and worldview. It is a place where everyone has the opportunity to immerse themselves in an authentic environment shaped and inhabited both practically and spiritually by the world-renowned writer — the city and women’s poet, the founder of Latvian modern poetry — Aleksandrs Čaks.
Two rooms of the apartment have been remodeled and adapted for visitors’ convenience and for exhibiting various exhibitions, while the main value — the complete and authentic ensemble — is formed by the rooms where the poet stayed and wrote. The extensive library of Latvian and foreign authors reflects Aleksandrs Čaks’s broad literary interests, while the excellent collection of artworks helps to recreate the atmosphere of Riga’s art life at that time.
The entrance to the building at Lāčplēša Street 48 is adorned with a plaque designed by the artist Vilipsons, which attracts the attention of passersby and invites them to visit the museum. Čaks plaque was recognized as a valuable artwork by art professionals and the residents of Riga, who voted for it to receive the Latvian Public Media award “Kilogram of Culture.”
