The traveling exhibition "Calendars" of the Madonna Museum can be viewed in the Riga Culture and Leisure Center "Imanta" until September 30 on the 2nd floor gallery.
The exhibition provides an insight into the history of calendars and introduces the Latvian book calendar.
The Latvian calendar - a type of printed matter - has historically been an important phenomenon of the social and cultural environment with specific tasks and functions. Like books, it reflects the cultural system of a certain era with its characteristic social structure, interests, tastes and traditions.
The exhibition "Calendars" provides an insight into the history of calendars and introduces the variety of Latvian book calendars (including those published outside Latvia) from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century. In total, there are 25 tablets with color and text prints for 12 months with different calendars:
