The organizers of the Staro Riga Light Festival invite everyone in Latvia, including employees of institutions and businesses, to place photographs or videos of light installations that they have created on their social media profiles from the 16th to the 22nd November, and to use the hashtag #staromajas. The mentors of the campaign are five Latvian artists: Helēna Heinrihsone, Katrīna Neiburga, Kristians Brekte, Kristaps Ancāns and Miķelis Mūrnieks, who are also inviting everyone to create light installations or performances in their own homes or at their workplaces.
Pictures or videos of the light installations published on social media using the hashtag #staromajas will be taking part in a competition, with the winners being selected by the overall votes of a jury and viewers. This will commence at 10pm on 22nd November and will continue for just two days until the evening of the 24th of November. The jury will initially evaluate the uniqueness of the concept for the newly created light installation, as well as the use of various materials, the quality of its execution and its visibility in the city environment.
Participants in the # Staro mājās campaign can draw inspiration from the video clips by the previously mentioned five Latvian artists – Helēna Heinrihsone, Katrīna Neiburga, Kristians Brekte, Kristaps Ancāns and Miķelis Mūrnieks, which can be seen on the Staro Riga communication channels on the internet. In them, the artists provide a variety of interpretations on the creation of light installations and performances, which people are invited to follow, or to reveal their creative spirit and create their own light installations, inspired by the artists’ ideas.
Practical suggestions for creating light installations are also provided by Riga’s hobby education institutions and teachers, and can be viewed on the Riga Hobby Education Centre’s home page (https://www.intereses.lv/idejas-lidzdalibas-akcijai-staro-majas).
Institutions, art schools, businesses and groups of friends are also invited to participate in the campaign, creating a sense of celebration together in Riga at a time when Latvia is celebrating its birthday.
Further information about the festival and the collaboration campaign can be found on the home page: staroriga.lv, as well as on the Staro Riga social media profiles on Facebook and Instagram.
