In the Riga Porcelain Museum in October from Tuesday to Saturday 11.00-18.00 interested parties are invited to an educational and creative lesson "Decal".
October in the creative workshop of the Riga Porcelain Museum is dedicated to getting to know in depth one of the most popular porcelain decoration techniques today - decal. An educational video material on the history of decals with designer Dace Bluma, in which artist will reveal the secrets of the technology of making decals, as well as practical lessons where anyone interested will be able to try their hand at decolling by creating their own, unique decal compositions on glazed porcelain products.
A decal is a decoration material – a sticker on adhesive paper printed with ceramic paint. By applying the decal pattern on the vessel and firing it, the ceramic paint melts into the vessel's glaze and becomes resistant to mechanical damage. The introduction of decals in the porcelain industry made the work of decorating easier - decorating could be done quicker, in unlimited quantities and with uniform quality. Today, decals are also available outside the walls of factories and production facilities; it can be ordered and used by anyone.
In addition to the special offer of the month, painting of porcelain dishes with professional colors, post-processing and firing in the oven at 780 - 1240 degrees Celsius continues to be available; the finished object can be received at the museum within two weeks after the lesson.
