From October 7, 2022 museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center", in cooperation with the Hungarian Embassy, invites you to the exhibition "The Hat" by contemporary Hungarian designer Valéria Fazekas.
A headdress as a statement. As proof. The hats on display at the exhibition are functional and at the same time special art objects - head ornaments that allow each wearer to assert their personality. This exhibition is part of the Hungarian Culture Days in Latvia.
The artist Valerija Fazekas graduated from the Textile Design Department of Budapest University of Applied Arts (now Mohoja-Naģ University of Art and Design) as an accessory designer, but already during her studies she started designing hats, which allowed her to experiment and focus on the search of form and structure.
As the designer herself admits, in her style you can feel the passion for the basic geometric-spatial forms of modernism and constructivism. She is bound by the dynamism of structures and the variety of materials, colors and textures. The balance between symmetry and asymmetry in the designer's work creates multidimensional perspectives. One of the most important aspects is the variability and movement of the objects she creates is the creativity with which the wearer wears the designed hats. Valerija Fazekas creates her unique art objects in one copy or in a very limited numbers.
In 1994 and 1997, she opened her first hat salons in Budapest. Since then, the designer's extravagant hats have gained recognition, delighting viewers with a variety of shapes, colors and structures in galleries and showrooms not only in Hungary, but also in the United Kingdom, Austria, Switzerland, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Latvia.
The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Hungarian Embassy in Latvia.
