Riga St. Peter's Church from September 27 to November 20 is hosting a painting exhibition of a latvian film director, a script writer, an actor and an artist Janis Streics
A film director, a script writer, an actor and an artist Janis Streics was born on 26 September, 1936. In 1959 he started studies at Department of Direction in Faculty of Theatre in Latvian National Conservatory. After graduation he worked as a director’s assistant. In 1963 he started his career as a film director at Riga Motion Pictures Studio. In total J. Streics has been the film director in 22 films. Most of them creates Latvian cinema “Gold fund”. The film “The child of man” made in 1991, popularized Latvia in the world, receiving a number of international festival awards. In Janis Streics’ filmography he has several roles, also in his own directed films. He has been writingscripts for his own directed films, he has been joint scripts’ author for other Latvian films as well. As a writer he has published the book “For a Good soul stream”, with stories about the people and personalities who he has met during his professional career. He also published the memory collection book “1991 That long year of the Child of man”.
Janis Streics is The Three – Star Order Commander, Latvian Academy of Sciences’ Member of Honour, Rainis’ and Latvian Prime Minister Awards, Vatican’s Award Beato Aneliko and International Film Festivals laureate. Janis Streics has been approved as one of the hundred best 20th Century’ personalities in Latvia.
In the contests’ exhibition’s “Jazeps Pigoznis’ Award for Latvian Landscape painting” Riga City’s council’s Sympathy prize winner Janis Streics exhibition “Streics and friends” at Riga St. Peters church will be exhibited Janis Streics’ paintings, as well as pieces of art from 63 other artist collections. Together 150 pieces of art. In the process of painting Janis Streics finds happiness, and for more than 10 years, together with his friends he is participating in the exhibitions and painting workshops.
