From September 7, the exhibition "No time" by the artist Ilze Smildzina at the Riga Culture and Recriation Center "Imanta".
About her exhibition, artist says the following: "There is no time or no time for... Painting is basically stopping or ignoring time. With a light hand, we intertwine the past with the present, or even the possible future. Time as a reference, which does not really matter not only in paintings, but in art in general. If time is not essential, then why is there never enough time? Clouds are the binding element that makes time and space irrelevant in my stories." Therefore, the audience has the opportunity to interpret for themselves where the paintings characters - friends, acquaintances or depicted people she met by chance really are. In order for this interpretation to take place, it is important for the artist to create space and spaciousness that "makes completely real scenes surreal."
Ilze Smildziņa obtained a master's degree in figurative painting and graphic arts at the Latvian Academy of Arts. The artist has held several solo exhibitions in Latvia and Lithuania, as well as participated in various local and foreign group exhibitions and art competitions, including the "ArtParis" art exhibition, representing the Saatchionline art gallery (2011), the 6th Beijing International Art Biennale (2015, 2019). Smildzina's artworks can be found in private collections - in Canada, Belgium, France, Sweden, Germany, Ireland, the USA, Belarus and Latvia, in the collection of the Chinese National Artists Association and in the collection of Luciano Benetton.
