The exhibition can be viewed at the museum from October 1 to December 1, 2024.
In autumn, when classes in schools and universities have resumed, the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" invites you to view the "Inkwells and quills" exhibition, which exhibits inkwells, writing instruments and various items related to writing from the museum's and private collections.
During the Art Nouveau period, when writing was mainly done with a quill or ink pen, an integral writing item was an inkwell - a container with ink in which to dip the pen/quill before writing. The stationery collection of the museum "Riga Jugendstila centrs" includes almost 20 different inkwells, both simple, austere and elegant, as well as more luxurious, decorated with various Art Nouveau ornaments.
The new exhibition will feature items from the collection of stationery of the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center"- various glass, metal, wooden and stone inkwells, as well as quills, ink bottles, paper presses, and paperweights. Everything will be complemented by postcards and memory boxes with samples of various handwritings. Special mention should be made of the letter folder and the children's congratulations to their parents, a gift from the members of the Zengbuši family, which recently came into the museum's collection. No less interesting are the letter stencils made in Riga, with the help of which a person could create monograms of the persons initials, and the autographs of several Latvian cultural workers.
The exhibition exhibits objects from the collection of the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center"and private collections.
The museum is open from 10.00 to 18.00 every day except Mondays.
