From October 1 to 31, 2022, the photo exhibition "My national costume in the world" of the association "My national costume" can be viewed in the gallery on the 1st floor of the Riga Culture and Leisure Center "Imanta".
The association "My national costume" collects stories of Latvian personal national costumes, which reflect both history, cultural heritage and traditions, as well as the creativity. This is an unprecedented project, as until now no one has been interested in and collected the stories of how a national costume comes to a person – how it was inherited, how a specific region was chosen and why, whom learned to make it himself, whom searched for and learned about the possibilities of its reconstruction. In addition, the association also gathers like-minded people and organizes informative and creative events not only in the field of national costumes and their making, but also their modern creative expressions.
Each national costume shown in the photo of the exhibition, along with its story, reflects personal values, family and family history, memories through generations, preserving and passing on the ethnographic and cultural-historical heritage, as well as the history of our country and nation.
Together with the exhibition "My national costume in the world", the Jelgava Flower scarf is also traveling with it. At the exhibition every visitor is invited to knit their lines in the scarf.
The association "My national costume" continues the initiated work on collecting, summarizing and presenting the stories of latvian national costumes to the wider public.
