Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 11.00, the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" invites you to the creative workshop "From sketch to embroidery". Participants will be introduced to the technique of converting a drawing into an embroidery scheme that was widely used before the digital age.
Handicrafts have been an integral part of a woman's life since the times of Ancient Egypt and Babylon. With the development of culture and technology, the types of handicrafts have also changed, becoming more sophisticated and complex. At the turn of the 20th century, hard-working housewives could already use a wide range of periodicals devoted to handicrafts and housekeeping, and the most skilled ones could create their own original object of applied art.
In the master class, using the materials provided by the museum (tracing paper, pencils, etc.), we will learn how to transform a picture of a beautiful flower into an embroidery scheme. No previous experience is required. When creating a technical sketch, it will be necessary to take into account the type, color and quality of the selected threads, the desired structures and color effects, as well as the size of the finished work.
Participation fee in the creative workshop – 10.00 EUR/person. Prior application is required by phone : +37167181465 or writing to jugendstils@riga.lv. The price includes a museum visit.
