The trading house "Jaksch & Co" can be called the first department store in Riga; it started publishing the magazine "Die Kunstgewerbe" ("Art and Craft") 110 years ago. In honor of this event, the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" as part of the cycle "Museum object stories" will present the first issue of the magazine and one of the things mentioned in the magazine - a shelf for placing newspapers and sheet music.

The magnificent and modern building of the trading house "Jaksch & Co" was built in 1900-1901, it was located in Vecrīga, Svērtuves street 11. "Jaksch & Co" offered prestigious and high-quality goods for home interior. In order to introduce the buyers to the very wide and high-quality assortments of goods, the company published both thematic catalogs and also the magazine "Die Kunstgewerbe". The main task of the richly illustrated magazine was to inform anyone interested in the news of the world of design by looking at the selection of the best things that had recently gone on sale.
