Lecture “European Art Nouveau. Brussels” presented by one of the leading Latvian researchers of Atr Nouveau architecture professor Janis Krastinsh will take place on Thursday, 16th of May 2024 at 17:00 in the museum “Riga Art Nouveau Centre”.
The "Riga Art Nouveau Center" museum invites everyone interested to the lecture that will be dedicated to the one of the most beautiful European Art Nouveau cities - Brussels, its architectural masterpieces and architects, among which such world-famous names as Victor Horta, Paul Cauchie, Henri van de Velde, Paul Hankar and the others.
It was in Brussels in 1893 that the architect Victor Horta designed the first Art Nouveau building - the house for professor Emil Tassel. This building was the first convincing example of the coming changes in architecture. This project was a step towards new possibilities: mansions for Armand Solvay and Edmond Van Eetvelde, the Maison du Peuple for the Socialist Party were soon built.
In a short time, Art Nouveau from Brussels began to spread throughout Europe. Having won a stable place in architecture and art, Art Nouveau continued to develop, branching into several deviations.
