For the third consecutive year, the Jāzeps Pīgoznis Award in Latvian Landscape Painting exhibition opens its doors to art-lovers at Riga St. Peter’s church. Colourful and manifold, addressing the viewer, inspiring contemplation.
The event makes a far-reaching contribution to the cultural sphere in Latvia. Not only does it pay homage to an artist, helps foster the Latvian landscape painting genre and promotes the discovery and cherishment of the beauty of our land, but its deepest meaning may lay in the participation of artists. The unique nature of the exhibition is revealed each year in the shared characteristics of the participants – this is an exhibition that displays the works of Latvians, Russians, Turkmens, Jews and Georgians side-by-side. Only a couple of the most beautiful flowers are picked from the magnificent bouquet. The nature of the exhibition is democratic: it gathers together both professors and students from institutes of higher education; here award-winning old masters encounter shy novices for whom this exhibition is the first thread in a common tapestry. Here the jury equally approves those who are still learning and those who unselfishly offer their knowledge, skills and revelations to others.
