From January 13, 2026, the Riga Art Nouveau Museum will host an exhibition by Aleksandra Čudnovska dedicated to the theme of the Venice Carnival. The exhibition combines the artist’s own works—graphics and photographs—with items from private collection. It tells the story of Venice as a theater of light and shadow, where reality and fantasy merge in an eternal dance of reflections.
Aleksandra Čudnovska’s graphic works and photographs of Venice Carnival costumes create a dialogue between the classical commedia dell’arte graphic characters and the artist’s individual visual interpretation. The works are created following the tradition of academic graphics, in the style of 19th-century drawings, with pronounced architectural detailing and the interplay of lines, light and shadow characteristic of that era. Works depict a city where time and history are reflected like light on the water’s surface. These reflections are visible not only in the chanels of Venice but also in its architecture, which preserves centuries of stories, in the people and their faces hidden behind masks, and in the light that gently illuminates the historic city.
The artist’s works are complemented by items from private collection: mysterious and colorful masks, an original carnival costume with special accessories, fans, jewelry, glass objects from Italy, as well as original magazine materials and illustrations from the 1920s–1930s.
The artworks of artist, collector, and restorer Aleksandra Čudnovska have been exhibited multiple times at the Riga Art Nouveau Museum—photographs, graphics, and painted glass. The collections always impress with their refined vision, creating a celebratory atmosphere. This exhibition by Aleksandra Čudnovska—a touch of Venice—allows visitors to experience the mysterious and fascinating atmosphere of the city, where the traditions of the carnival stretch far into the past and are woven with countless legends.
The exhibition will be open from January 13, 2026, to March 8, 2026, during museum hours. The museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, except Mondays.
