From January 18th to March 17th, the "Riga Art Nouveau Center" museum invites you to view irons produced at the beginning of the 20th century from the private collection of Dmitrijs Zaitsevs.
The exhibition will feature the most unusual models of irons, designed for a variety of purposes - for ironing fine laces and ladies' gloves, and not only that.
The development of society, world views, arts and crafts of the Art Nouveau period has always been closely related to the development of technology. Laundry and clothes care has long been one of the most complicated and time-consuming household chores for women, however, with the development of inventions in the field of household appliances, the burden and the time invested in this process significantly decreased, allowing women to devote more time to other important activities.
The exhibition will feature Dmitrijs Zaitsev's collection of irons, as well as various technological innovations designed for clothing care. A special object of interest will be the small furnace for iron heating from the Art Nouveau period. The collection has been carefully curated for over 15 years and includes exhibits from the USA, Spain, Austria, Germany, Holland, Great Britain and other countries. The exhibition of irons in the museum will be complemented by elegant and gorgeous postcards and advertisements from the collection of Ilona Jahimović.
The exhibition will be on display at the museum until March 17, 2024.
