At the Riga Porcelain Museum, from June 13 to August 10, 2025, the exhibition “Decal” will be on view. Exhibition is dedicated to one of the most popular porcelain decorating technologies and its application in Latvian art and design today.
The exhibition showcases the popular porcelain decorating technique of decal transfer, a method used in industry for over a century that allows fast and efficient decoration of porcelain objects. This technique is also embraced by contemporary Latvian artists and designers for both mass-produced and individual works.
Highlighting the blend of traditional porcelain craftsmanship with modern design innovations, the exhibition features works by fourteen Latvian artists and studios, including Elita Patmalniece, Jānis Ronis, Robert Koļcovs, Aivars Vīlipsons, Egija Stībele (in collaboration with Piebalga Porcelain Factory), the brand “Cibric,” Kristīne Nicmane and the brand “Jašas podi,” Diāna Boitmane and “Diana Boitmane Porcelain,” Kristīne Zemļicka-Brālēna and “K.porcelain,” Linda Ķivule and “Linda Kivule Ceramics,” Adrija Tomovica with “TOTOMOdesign,” designer Aira Lesiņa, artist Maira Karstā, Sandra Dikmane, Kristians Brekte, and Ieva Cipruse. A special highlight is the work of designer and jewelry artist Pēteris Ripa with the brand “Nostalgia_laser,” whose use of digital and laser technologies signals the future of porcelain decoration.
The exhibition reflects the dynamic transformation of the porcelain industry, driven by technological advances, evolving consumer preferences, and fresh artistic expressions. Traditions combine with innovation to create unique and diverse artworks.
Visitors will see a wide range of pieces—from unique artist visions to industrially produced works—sourced from the collections of the Riga Porcelain Museum, the Rotko Museum, artists’ personal holdings, and collaborating studios. Special thanks go to “Ornandum,” Latvia’s largest and most popular decal manufacturer and leading distributor of artist-decorated porcelain vessels.
