The exhibition “Summer Moods or Čaks in the Countryside” by artist Biruta Stafecka will be on view at the Aleksandrs Čaks Museum from May 28, 2026, to September 13, 2026.
The poet Aleksandrs Čaks was a city boy who celebrated boulevard linden trees and a lonely fuchsia on the narrow windowsill of his apartment, yet in the summers he, like many Riga residents, would travel to the countryside to visit relatives. In the moods of summer, scents, colors, and light engage in lively, playful motion. The city dweller’s eyes, ears, and all senses rush along with this wondrous whirl and sink into an entirely different, mysterious world. The works of artist Biruta Stafecka come close to those lyrical emotions that Čaks wove into his poetry. Like the poet, the artist is fascinated by experiencing the moods of life, which are most vividly revealed through contrasts.
B. Stafecka has been participating in exhibitions in Latvia and abroad since 1988. In the early stages of her artistic career, she focused on textile art; however, she later chose painting—working in oil and acrylic—as her main form of creative expression.
Alongside her artistic practice, B. Stafecka works as a drawing instructor in the Textile Art Department of the Riga School of Art and Media.
