From April 15 to 20, the Riga Art Nouveau Center invites you to celebrate Easter. Visitors will be delighted by the festively decorated interior, created by artist Tamara Chudnovska, as well as by centennial objects from the museum's collection that reflect the essence of spring. Egg-painting workshops, which will take place on Saturday, April 19, and the concert "Come, Come, the Great Day!" on April 20, will make the holiday celebration at the museum both active and creative! At the museum entrance, visitors will have the opportunity to take a photo in front of a large-format Art Nouveau-era postcard featuring an Easter rooster, a bright egg, and feathers. The postcard display will be available from April 15 to 27.
During the Art Nouveau period, both natural and artificial flowers were used to decorate homes for Easter, a tradition that grew in popularity during the 19th century. Spring flowers and buds, crocheted baskets, silk ribbons, and colorful eggs – all of these can be seen in the Easter compositions created by artist Tamara Chudnovska. These compositions are reminiscent of those created by housewives in the past while waiting for the holiday and thinking about how to decorate their homes. Visitors will be able to explore the diverse materials used in these decorations, such as silk, crepe paper, fabric, porcelain, wax, and even sugar. An unusual wax flower composition and a decorative Easter tree with birds will surely attract everyone’s attention. In addition to household items, visitors will also see the latest Easter-themed postcards that have been added to the Museum’s collection.
Since celebrating Easter in Latvia is unthinkable without observing traditions, creativity, and fun, the Easter egg-painting workshop will take place on April 19 at 12:00, 13:30, and 15:00. Museum visitors will be introduced to both traditional and modern egg-painting techniques. All materials necessary for creative expression will be provided. This time, participants will also have the opportunity to paint non-edible eggs.
On Sunday, April 20, at 11:00, museum visitors can enjoy and participate in joyful songs and games led by musician Baiba Ērgle in the concert “Come, Come, the Great Day!” Visitors who enjoy fun attractions are encouraged to bring painted eggs for the egg-rolling competition, as well as for the egg fights.
