On Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 12:00 and 14:00, the museum “Riga Art Nouveau Centre” invites you to the creative workshop “Christmas Rose”, where everyone will be able to make a beautiful flower decoration. The workshop takes place as part of the “Christmas Joy” exhibition.
Christmas rose is one of the symbols of Christmas in Western Europe, including France. The museum’s main Christmas tree will be decorated with multi-colored paper and fabric roses. Participants of the creative workshop, following the instructions and using materials prepared by the museum, will make similar flowers that later can be used to decorate a Christmas tree or Advent wreath at home.
According to a popular legend, when the shepherds and wise men went to look at the newborn Jesus, they met a girl named Madelona on the way. The girl went with them, but when everyone started giving gifts to the Savior, she realized that she had nothing. Madelona started to cry, but then an angel descended to her, the rain blew away, and the girl's tears, touching the black earth, turned into beautiful roses. They symbolized purity of heart - the greatest gift that can be given. Since then, the roses that Madelona gave to Jesus have become one of the symbols of Christmas.
The workshop is intended for both adults and children from 7 years of age.
Participation fee – 10.00 EUR/person. The price includes a visit to the museum and workshop materials.
