In October 2026, the Riga Porcelain Museum invites visitors to take part in the educational workshop “Decal Decoration,” held Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00 to 18:00.
Throughout October, the Riga Porcelain Museum’s creative workshop focuses on exploring one of the most popular contemporary porcelain decoration techniques: decal application. During this hands-on session, participants will have the opportunity to try their hand at decorating porcelain and create their own unique compositions on glazed porcelain objects. The museum workshop offers pre-designed decal sheets featuring ornaments, animals and plants, as well as colourful decal sheets from which participants can cut out their own shapes and silhouettes to create distinctive compositions on tableware.
Decals are transfers featuring ceramic pigments that are fixed to an object by firing it in a kiln at temperatures of approximately 600–800°C. After firing, the decorated objects are safe for everyday use, and the decoration is durable. Finished pieces can be collected from the museum within two weeks of the workshop. Participants will learn the basics of porcelain decoration and composition, gain insight into various decorative techniques and put their new knowledge into practice.
The museum invites visitors to explore the art of porcelain decoration, whether individually or together with family, friends or colleagues, choosing a simpler or more complex decorative technique to suit their interests and skills.
Families with children aged seven and above, young people, senior citizens and people with mobility impairments are particularly welcome. The workshop will be led by museum educators Vita Lukstiņa and Astra Ratkeviča.
Workshop fee: EUR 5.50–19.10, depending on the value of the porcelain item selected for decoration.
