The Christmas celebration at the Alexander Čaks Museum will begin on December 13, when at 16.00, the exhibition "Colorful Christmas" will be opened. Exhibition features stories about the celebration of Christmas in the family of the poet A. Čaks.
The exhibition consists of photographs, postcards, documents of the poet's family, emphasizing the festive mood in A. Čak's home.
In Alexander Čaks family, Christmas could be celebrated twice a year, from December 24 to January 7, because the poet's father Jānis Čadarainis had accepted the Orthodox faith and his son Alexander was baptized in the Riga Ascension Orthodox Church, while his mother Emīlija Lizete Čadaraine was a Lutheran.
There is no information about whether the family visited a church on the Christmas eve, but in the difficult moments of his life, A. Čaks always went to light a candle in the St. Alexander Nevsky Church on Brīvības Street.
This year in the poet's home, the Christmas tree will be decorated with authentic decorations of A. Čaks family and from the first half of the 20th century.
On the other hand, the representative of A. Čaks family, the poet Elita Bičevska, will introduce the event's visitors to the magic of Christmas poetry.
A special place at the event will be dedicated to the work "The Poet" by set designer and stained glass artist Ludis Ludvigs Bērziņš (1929-2021), which was donated to the museum by the artist's family.
The exhibition "Colorful Christmas" will be on display at the museum from December 13, 2022 to February 4, 2023.
