During Advent, the museum Riga Art Nouveau Centre invites you to visit the exhibition “Christmas Joy”. This year, from December 4, the museum will be in a French Christmas mood, according to which artist Tamara Čudnovska has created decorations for several Christmas trees and rooms. The festive mood will be complemented by Ilona Jahimoviča’s collection of mirrors and the wonderfully illuminated windows of the museum. Several concerts, workshops and events for children will take place as part of the exhibition. The exhibition is supported by the French Institute in Latvia.
The museum’s main Christmas tree will be decorated with grapes, pears, garlands, multi-colored paper and fabric roses, with silverware and small paper and cardboard figurines, and the top of the tree will be decorated with a star/angel.
In France, the beauty and joy of the holiday is symbolized by the Christmas tradition of decorating the house with roses and other flower bouquets. All the museum rooms will also have flower bouquets made of roses, fir branches and mistletoe. An indispensable part of the festive season is gifts. On Christmas Eve, children leave their boots or shoes by the fireplace or under the Christmas tree, waiting for gifts from Santa Claus or other holiday characters, such as "Père Noël". In some regions of France, there is also a tradition of putting carrots or little hay in the room by the fireplace to feed the reindeer or Père Noël's donkey.
During Advent, we not only prepare for Christmas, but also look more often into ourselves and the reflection of our souls, which is why the Museum's exhibition hall will display mirrors, porcelain figurines and postcards from the collection of Ilona Jahimoviča. At dusk and in the dark of night, museum's windows will be illuminated, so the magnificent Christmas tree and window decorations will also be visible from the street.
The exhibition will include a creative workshop “Christmas Rose” (December 7), a children's event “A Christmas Tale” (December 14), and a music salon “Art Nouveau in the Mood of Christmas” (December 15).
The exhibition will be open at the museum from December 4, 2024 to January 12, 2025.
