On 26 October, in Tolosa, Basque Country, Spain, the youth choir “Kamēr…” from the Riga Municipality’s Concert Organization “Ave Sol” claimed 4th victory in the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing, under the artistic direction and baton of Jurģis Cābulis.
With this achievement, “Kamēr…” becomes the only choir in the world to have won the European Grand Prix four times. The ensemble has now earned this most prestigious title under each of its artistic directors — Māris Sirmais, Jānis Liepiņš, Aivis Greters, and Jurģis Cābulis.
In the final, “Kamēr…” competed against Latvia’s “Sōla” and choirs from Indonesia and the Philippines. Their program included Ādolfs Skulte and Ziedonis Purvs’ poem Jūrai (To the Sea), Henry Purcell and Sven-David Sandström’s Hear My Prayer, O Lord, Richard Dering’s Factum est silentium, Ēriks Ešenvalds’ A Drop in the Ocean with words by Mother Teresa, and Tadeja Vulc’s Sine Sole Nihil Sum (Without the Sun I Am Nothing).
