From September 7 to October 27 of this year, the exhibition hall "Riga Contemporary Art Space" invites you to visit the Baltic Analog Lab collective exhibition "How to (write) light".
Baltic Analog Lab (BAL) is a collective of artists from Riga. Since 2016, it has been home to filmmakers and photographers interested in analog media, mainly focusing on various experiments with the materiality of film.
The exhibition "How to (write) light" has a performative nature. As part of it, members of the BAL team will organize various workshops, film screenings, projections and performances. Each event in the exhibition space will leave behind an object to be viewed. During the exhibition, Armands Anže will lead a large-format analog photo workshop. Ieva Balode - cameraless film workshops for young and old, screenings of short films by BAL members and much more. Times for master classes and performance events will be announced separately.
On September 7 at 20:00, the exhibition will be opened by Andris Fedotov's extended cinema performance "Bēgums" / "Ebb", which will take place within the framework of the Contemporary Culture Forum "White Night 2024". The performance was created by combining black and white photographs and a slide made in cyanotype techniques. Projections on the screen are alternately modulated by strobes combined with synchronized sound design. Low tide is the state between two high tides. Performance length 35 min.
At Sintija Anderson's extended cinema performance "3MM" will take place at 22.00. The show is made up of three sisters who experience moonshine. Inspired by this extraordinary experience, the show draws us into the world of dreams and the subconscious, where memories stored deep in the corners of the mind merge with everyday images. The experienced set of images and symbols creates a strange, mystical reality in which the boundaries between the past and the present disappear, creating a new, unfamiliar world. Performance length 25 min. Artists: Sintija Andersone (projections), Dita Andersone (contemporary dance), Laura Andersone (sounds and digital loops).
The flow of visitors on September 7 from 18:00 will be organized in such a way that it is convenient for visitors to enjoy both exhibitions and performances.
Organized by the exhibition hall "Riga Contemporary Art Space" of the Association of Cultural Institutions of the Riga State City Municipality, supported by the Riga City Council.
