Art scholar Ingrīda Burāne has said about the "Jāzeps Pīgoznis Award in Latvian Landscape Painting": "This event has a far-reaching contribution to the cultural space of Latvia. It can be seen not only as a commemorative event for one artist, as a maintenance of the genre of Latvian landscape painting, as realizationof the beauty of our land, but perhaps its deepest meaning can be found in the love of the participating artists. The nature of the exhibition is democratic: it brings together both professors and students of higher education institutions; old masters with thick laurel wreaths and timid beginners meet here, for whom this exhibition is the first thread in a common fabric..."
