Traditionally, on June 10, residents of Riga and guests of the city are invited to visit the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" to celebrate the international holiday - World Art Nouveau Day. Every year, this day focuses on a particular theme. This year, the focus is on the diversity of materials in house interiors.
On June 10, 2023, the museum organizes informative guided tours in the vicinity of Albert Street to introduce various stairwell interiors. Tour participants will visit the stairwells of the most recognizable houses around the museum to get a closer look at the bright colors and materials used in the decoration of the houses. Excursions start at 10.00 and 13.00 at the entrance of the museum on Strēlnieku Street. The duration of the tour is one hour.
After the tour around the city, the participants of the event are invited to see the "Tiles" and "Summer 1900" exhibitions of the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center", which will surprise visitors with the bold and bright colors of the interior exhibits. The youngest museum visitors will have a chance to play tile dominoes, look for tile patterns in the museum and color their Art Nouveau tile.
The World Art Nouveau Day was celebrated for the first time in 2013, when the international association of Art Nouveau cities Reseau Art Nouveau Network (RANN) proposed to pay attention to the cultural heritage of Art Nouveau and its preservation by agreeing on a day to jointly celebrated Art Nouveau. The theme of 2023 is the diversity of materials in the designs of art nouveau architecture, art and household items.
