From July 13, 2023, the exhibition "Water lily" can be seen at the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center".
During the glorious blooming season of summer, the museum invites you to see the exhibition dedicated to the theme of flowers "Water lily". In the exhibition visitors will be able to see objects of applied art, tableware, interior decorations, postcards and embroideries from the collections of 12 Latvian museums and private collections.
The water lily is a summer flower that pleases the eyes of the spectators mainly in July. The water lily is also called the symbol of Latvian Art Nouveau and the queen of aquatic plants, its related lotus flower symbolizes spiritual renewal and rebirth. The water lilies shown in the new exhibition were created from the Art Nouveau period until the second half of the 20th century and "bloom" all year round - they are drawn on porcelain and glass, forged in metal, engraved in wood and precious metal, embroidered on various textiles, printed on postcards and books, painted on canvas. The water lilies displayed in the exhibition are depicted on objects of various sizes – from thimble to stained glass and lambrequin.
An Art Nouveau time frame made in Riga, which was donated to the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" by the "Future Support Fund" foundation, will also be on display at the exhibition.
The exhibition exhibits items from the collection of the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center", as well as from the Aleksandar Čaka Museum, the Cēsu History and Art Museum, the Daugavpils Regional Research and Art Museum, the Jaunmoku Palace Museum, the Jurmala Museum, the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia, the Limbaži Museum, the Riga History and Shipping Museum, Museum of Literature and Music, Talsi County Museum, Tukuma Museum and several private collections.
The exhibition at the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" can be viewed until October 8, 2023. The museum is open from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. every day except Mondays.
