On February 7, 2023 at 16.00, at the Alexander Čaks Museum the opening of the thematic exhibition "Love Story" dedicated to the love of Alexander Čaks and Milda Grinfelde. To the public, exhibition will be open from February 8 to April 18, 2023.
The exhibition is a tribute to the love and joint work of A. Čaks and M. Grinfelde. A. Čaks met M. Grīnfelde on March 27, 1943, on the birthday of the writer Jānis Rudzītis. After the birthday celebrations, the poet escorted Milda home to the Struktoru Street, and at the end of the romantic walk, the two agreed that they would meet each Wednesday at 18.00. From these regular meetings both love and poems blossomed.
The poems written in autumn 1943 suggested by M. Grīnfelde were shown to the book publisher Miķelis Goppers from the publishing house "Zelta ābele". During the conversation with the publisher, A. Čaks revealed that he wanted to write the title of his new collection of poems in Chinese, but in the translation this romantic title sounded completely unromantic, so the decision was made to leave the Latvian version – “Debesu dāvana” ("Gift from Heaven").
M. Goppers had no money during the war, but fearing to lose the typescript manuscript of the poem collection, the publisher advised A. Čaks to sign a contract for publishing the book after the war. M. Goppers paid A. Čaks half of the contract fee for which the poet took Milda to a cafe to celebrate this event.
The collection of poetry called "Heaven's Gift" was published for the first time only in 1980.
