In February, when St. Valentine's Day is celebrated and we start to feel the approach of spring, the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" will exhibit the postcards dedicated to the theme of love in the cycle "Stories of the Museum". An insight into these collection materials will be available at the event on February 1, 2023 at 17.00. The objects will be on display in the museum until February 28.
The museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" has about a thousand different postcards - views of cities, reproductions of works of art, greetings on various holidays and occasions. In the postcards dedicated to the theme of love, alongside doves and hearts with images of men and women, a wide range of feelings and emotions are expressed - dreams, longings, hopes, joy, happiness. Often these postcards are combined with the function of a greeting card at Easter, Midsummer, Christmas. The mood shown in the picture is often accompanied by a corresponding poem.
Postcards as an officially recognized form of mail were introduced in 1869 in Austro-Hungary, a year later the first illustrated postcards began to be issued in Germany. The beginning of the 20th century should be considered the golden age of postcards, when discoveries in the field of photography opened up unprecedented opportunities in the diversification of postcard views.
Entrance to the event at a special price - 2 euros.
