Exhibition of the Textile Art Association of Latvia – The SEVENTHEENTH – opens to public on September 20, at St. Peter’s Church of Riga
It features works of the well know masters as well as those created by the youngest generation of Latvian textile artists. The exposition consists of works that were created last year and shows vast variety of technical possibilities and usage of materials, and gives the general idea about the new developments in textile art.
The works of young artists are significant because they display an interest in three-dimensional objects, various author techniques and the most time-consuming technique – tapestry.
There are no general thematic guidelines given to these annual textile exhibitions leaving the choice of subject matter to the artist himself / herself, to be determined by one’s inner necessity. This year the range of topics is wide – along with important social issues one can observe works that reveal our inner emotional world in today’s deformed and aggressive environment as well as the possibility of the cultural successiveness and associative interpretations of the nature motif in a rich variety of colours and shapes.
The exhibition at St. Peter’s Church of Riga is on display until October 21, 2012.
