On April 2, 2023 at 15.00 in the Concert Hall "Ave Sol" Riga Orthodox Chamber Choir "Blagovest"invites to the concert "Great Lent Songs".
In this year's concert program, as always, listeners will have the opportunity to hear the works of outstanding composers and enjoy a high-quality musical performance. The choir will sing original compositions by Artemia Vedel, Georgs Pelečs, Emīls Dārziņš, Aleksandrs Arkhangelska, Lucija Garuta and other wonderful composers.
The tradition of singing during Lent began at the beginning of the 19th century, in order to introduce the secular public to the singing of Orthodox church choirs and to tell about faith and betrayal, sin and repentance, suffering and sacrifice, compassion and forgiveness in the language of music. The beginnings of Orthodox chants and the roots of traditions can be traced back to the ancient past, which shows that the power of music, liturgical texts and their messages continue to reach and inspire listeners year after year, becoming a part of cultural heritage. The Riga Orthodox Chamber Choir "Blagovest" also participates in the preservation of this heritage with its daily work, along with the Orthodox music, the repertoire includes more and more works by Latvian classics and contemporary authors.
Organ scores will be played by organist Larisa Carjkova.
The concert will be conducted by Inga Pelša.
