From October 27, 2022, museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" invites you to get to know the works of the outstanding Azerbaijani artist Inna Kostin in the exhibition "Silk Wings of Absheron". The author is one of the world's most outstanding specialists in the silk painting technique - batik. The silk scarves presented in this exhibition, depict the landscapes of the Absheron Peninsula that are intertwined with oriental and national motifs, as well as the image of the mythical bird simurgh.
Inna Kostin is an Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, laureate of many local and international competitions and participant of more than 250 different exhibitions. Her works are stored in the National Art Museum of Azerbaijan, the Museum of Modern Art of Azerbaijan, as well as in museums and galleries of more than 30 countries in Italy, Germany and Norway, Georgia, and also in private collections.
The artist was born in Baku, graduated from the painting department of the Moscow Art College and the State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow, and by speciality is a feature film and television artist-director. Currently, Inna Kostin teaches at the Department of Painting and Cinema of the State Academy of Arts of Azerbaijan, is a member of the Union of Artists and Cinematographers of Azerbaijan.
The artist's works intertwine the landscapes of her native Absheron Peninsula with the mythical simurgh, a winged creature in the form of a bird, found in Azerbaijani mythology and literature. Simurgh as a bird - the prophet and the guardian of sacred knowledge and the tool of destiny. From the artist's point of view, it is a symbol of Azerbaijan's soul and strong spirit, and it is especially relevant in the era of globalization, when it is important to preserve national identity.
The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Latvia.
The exhibition in the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" can be viewed until December 4, 2022 during the museum's working hours. The museum is open from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. every day except Mondays.
