As it has been reported in the end of 2012, the Association of Culture Institutions of Riga City Council has become a partner of the international project within the framework of the European Union’s Regional Development Fund under the European Territorial Interregional co-operation program INTERREG IVC 2007.-2013. The terms of references of the first project’s stage was the exchange with the good practice experience between the member states and cities; meanwhile collecting data about the arts and crafts field and providing an analysis of current situation in Riga; and, by working in cooperation with NGO The Society "Latvian Folk Art Union", the identification of the support structures for establishing and successful function of small- and medium-sized enterprises.
The work group has presented the Riga’s city political stand and experience of how it ensures the support of its folk art and craftsmanship studies and masters in the international seminars on experience exchange and in the studies exchange visits (in Florence, Reims and Barcelona) on the establishing and support for small- and medium-sized art and craft enterprises. Understanding the desire of various European representatives to support the preservation of craftsmanship skills and the uniqueness of applied folk art in each country, we are working on the development of municipal order to Riga’s folk art studies and are gathering a whole information on the status, needs and possibilities of these studies.
The terms of reference of the current working group is to collect the examples of good practices of the second theme “Access to innovation design and financial assistance to SMEs” in the field of arts and crafts.
