From December 15, 2022 to January 15, 2023, the exhibition "Winter's Tale" can be seen around the clock in the windows of the Riga Culture and Recreation Center "Imanta".
Visitors can recognize Kraukšķītis and his friends in the visualizations pasted in the large windows of the cultural center, as well as read excerpts from the beautiful Christmas story "Winter's Tale" by the Latvian writer Margarita Stāraste. M. Staraste's work leads children and their parents into an interesting whirlwind of Christmas adventures.
Margarita Staraste has written and illustrated around 100 books in her 66 years of artistic activity. The illustrations were also made for more than 40 other authors' works, thus creating joy and the first acquaintance with the book for many generations of Latvian children.
"Winter's Tale" was written and illustrated in 1972. In the story, the forest dwellers are preparing for Christmas. Snow White bakes gingerbread cookies, while the dwarfs make toys for the forest animals. The story is run through by a little gingerbread man, Kraukšķitis, with whom miraculous things happen.
In the author's works, both trees and plants and even natural phenomena have turned into fairy-tale characters. M. Staraste's illustrations and texts are characterized by positive and warm emotional intonation, while the chosen characters are benevolent and curious.
This is one of the Riga Municipality's Christmas activities. You can familiarize yourself with all festive events in Riga on the website https://svetki.riga.lv/, as well as follow the municipal social network page "Rīgā notiek".
