From 22 January until 16 February Riga Porcelain Museum hosts the personal exhibition by Žanete Žvīgure THE CHANGING SEA
Artist Žanete Žvīgure has been participating in exhibitions and creative symposiums since 1985 and this is her ninth personal exhibition.
The artwork presented in the exhibition – painted porcelain vases and plates – have been created over a year period and show the artist’s versatile creativity.
The key motif of the exhibition is the seaside nature – both the strong gusts of wind and mist as well as ornamental rhythms of waves. The compositions of the painted artwork feature the symbols of Latvian nature – the sea, clouds, oaks and wagtails.
Žanete Žvīgure’s artwork is mainly created by pen and ink drawings where the rhythm of strokes is supplemented with glossy golden and silver areas. The artist uses the classical painting technique and her latest drawings feature the interplay of graphics with the flow painting of the sub-glazing. The saturated cobalt and copper oxide tints interplay with the diverse tones of the sea.
