From November 1 to 30, 2022, Siljas Pogules' solo exhibition "Collection of Modular Sweets" is on view in the gallery on the 2nd floor of the Riga Culture and Leisure Center "Imanta".
"Collection of modular sweets" is a personal exhibition of textile paintings by Silja Pogule, which exhibits works made in the tufting technique, which can be combined as modules in a larger form. The composition of each module contains structures that repeat as abstract, deformed circles, dynamic twists or stylized motifs from nature - something scenic and also figurative can be found in tuftings. Sweets are the key, sweetes are the story, and sweetes are the leitmotif of the mood of the exhibition.
Art scholar Inga Šteimane writes about the exhibition "Collection of Modular Sweets" as follows: "According to tradition, “sweet” in art denotes something overly embellished, sensitive or banal. There are no clear rules, but if a painting, a sculpture, a poem or a song is said to be "too sweet", others can agree or disagree. In the " Collection of Modular Sweets " the sweetness was born in a different way - it was deliberately taken out of the world of tastes and sensations and placed in the center of attention and contemplated as a more or less insistent desire."
Silja Pogule has obtained a Master's degree in painting at the Latvian Academy of Arts (1996), before that she studied textile art at the Tallinn University of Art (1989-1991) and Riga Design and Art High School (1985-1989). Since 1999, she has been working as a graphic designer and cooperating with clients in European countries.
So far the artist has held eight solo exhibitions of paintings and textile works.
The exhibition is free for visitors every day from 10.00 to 20.00
The exhibition is implemented by the Culture and Leisure Center "Imanta" of the Association of Cultural Institutions of Riga Municipality.
