From 21 February to 23 March sculpture exhibition CITY FOR THE WORLD is open in Riga St Peter’s Church
Thematically the exhibition is devoted to Riga as the European Capital of Culture and it has been organized in co-operation with the Latvian Sculpture Centre.
The Latvian Sculpture Centre (LSC) started its activities in 1993. The Centre unites 50 professional artists from all generations. In 20 years of its operation LSC has organized more than 60 exhibitions in Latvia and abroad involving both local and foreign artists. Latvian sculptors have very successfully participated in various global and European symposiums and exhibitions. Among the globally known Latvian sculptors there are Jānis Strupulis, Agnese Rudzīte Kirillova, Zigmunds Bielis, Viktors Suškēvičs, Ģirts Burvis etc. Latvian art can boast elaborated sculpture traditions that are still represented by our senior masters Laimonis Blumbergs, Ēvī Upeniece, Aivars Gulbis, Arta Dumpe, Oļegs Skarainis, Olita Nigule and Mirdza Lukaža.
The exhibition CITY FOR THE WORLD features the sculptures created by all generations of artists over the recent three years and provides spectators with the opportunity to see a diverse and professionally valuable scene of contemporary sculpture. The exposition mainly consists of small forms – the style which is more mobile for ideas and experiments and thus facilitates the development of the sculpture thought. The exhibition features the rich in the form and ideas pieces by sculptors Viktorija Pelše,Zigurds Galūns, Vineta Kurzemniece, Vija Dzintare, Ritvars Kalniņš, Andris Abiļevsand Marina Veilande.
