At the Riga Porcelain Museum in June 2022, every week from Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00 to 18:00, interested parties can apply and attend a thematic creative workshop – porcelain tile painting with stencils.
By celebrating Midsummer and celebrating the summer solstice in the Creative Workshop "Līgo!" workshop participants will be able to paint unglazed white ceramic tile in size 15x15 cm, using two techniques – with colored glazes or so called ‘Cold’ porcelain paints. Painting with colored glazes involves firing the object in an oven. You will be able to receive the finished work of art within a week of workshop attendance. On the other hand, when painting with cold porcelain paints, you will be able to take the tile with you immediately.
The workshop will be inspired by flower and plant motifs corresponding to the theme of the solstice. The range of colors and glazes offered will be wide. Cold colors are bright and can be painted in several layers. On the other hand, when working with glazes, you can indulge in improvisation and unexpected surprises as during the firing process, the glazes melt and merge, creating amazing color transitions and visual effects.
Creative workshops at the Riga Porcelain Museum are available in June, every week from Tuesday to Saturday, except on holidays on June 23 and 24. People with special needs, including people with reduced mobility or in a wheelchair, are invited to participate in the master classes as well.
Participation fee regardless of the chosen technology - 5.60 EUR / piece.
Pre-registration is required by phone +371 26406354 or e-mail maija.nikitina@riga.lv every day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., except Mondays and Sundays. The workshop will be led by museum pedagogues Astra Kaprāne and Rasa Jansone.
Participating in the workshop is a great opportunity to have a good time with friends or family, or just as well indulge in individual meditation with colors on the surface of the ceramic tile. It is an opportunity to manually prepare themed gifts and souvenirs, as well as to create a festive mood.
The event is organized by the Riga Municipality and is part of a joint Midsummer program in the capital, which has been developed in cooperation with cultural centers, associations and educational institutions. The full program is available on the website www.kultura.riga.lv.
