The middle generation dance collective "Latve" has an interesting history. It came about only less than a year ago, when a brave group of like-minded enthusiasts, who did not know a single dance step, thought that they would like to dance at the General Latvian Song and Dance Festival. Well, the crazy idea has turned into reality and the collective now operates in the Riga Culture Center "Iļguciems" and its leader is Sarma Freiberga, the founder of the youth dance group "Latve" 37 years ago. Middle generation dancers of "Latve" are performing for the first time at the General Latvian Song and Dance Festival qualification show. Concertmaster Inese Lūsiņa has been with "Latve" all these years.
The concert program will include the dances of the XVII Dance Festival, but not only. There will also be a dances created by an old folk dance master.
The following dance groups will also take part in the concert: VPDK "Latve"; JDK "Dejotprieks"; VPDK "Spriganis"; JDK "Austris".
Collectives "Austris" and "Spriganis" operate under the leadership of Iveta Kālberga, head of Pastende Culture House of Gibuļi Parish. Pastende is a unique place in Talsi region, where the dance tradition is passed down from generation to generation. Every inhabitant of Pastende can find a dancer in his circle of relatives.
The youth collective "Austris" counts its affiliation to the Pastende House of Culture for 75 years, while this is the 40th working season for "Spriganis". If mom and dad dances, sons and daughters dance, uncles and aunts dance.
Dancers have also founded their own association. The association "Spriganis" has been collecting and compiling the history, memories and photos of dance collectives and "dancing families" for several years, in cooperation with all the dancers and cultural enthusiasts of Gibuļi parish. Materials and photographs have been collected, photographs have been digitized and more than 300 pages have been published in a thick book with a collection of historical evidence unique to the Talsi region "I dance against the wind".
The youth dance collective "Dejotprieks" of the Riga Culture Center "Iļguciems" considers the joy of dancing and a genuine smile to be the most important thing. Their motto - "We have great and mighty joy, it is our joy to dance." Dance collective "Dejotprieks" celebrated its 25 years of existence last year. Sandra Keisele, its founder, has been with the team all these years.
