On October 15 at 21.00, the dark electronic music association +K+M+B will mark the end of the exhibition "Latvian Musical Instruments. Experimental laboratory." with a musical and performative performance.
At the end of the exhibition, on October 15 at 21.00, the performance "Latvian Musical Instruments" by the association +K+M+B in the exhibition hall "Riga Art Space". +K+M+B is the dark electronic music project of Kristians Brakte, Modris Svilāns and Māris Butlers. The musicians themselves call themselves an association of mystics and introduce themselves with the following words: "Kārlis Straubergs had a book about Latvian spells, which were passed on to the next generation when he died and were kept secret so that their disclosure would not deprive the believers of power. Now these books have been passed into the hands of another generation, the artist association +K+M+B. These masked men turn everything they touch into sounds, and no person, animal or tree that happens to be within their reach knows if one fine day they will not fall under the influence of paranormal phenomena and sounds.”
Experimental laboratory "Latvian Musical Instruments" is a visual art and sound project dedicated to folk instruments, their history and influences, as well as their contemporary creation. The initiators of the laboratory are the tandem of artists Kristians Brekte and Modris Svilāns, in cooperation with the curator Auguste Petre, while the project is based on the research on Latvian musical instruments carried out by traditional music expert, ethnomusicologist Valdis Muktupāvels. Folk instruments are a wide and important part of traditional culture and people's lives, its influence is felt in connection with various rituals and traditions, but it is important that most often the knowledge about the visual and sound characteristics of instruments are passed on orally - by memory, not specific instructions.
