From March 9 to July 2, 2023, the "Tiles" exhibition will be on view at the museum " Riga Art Nouveau Center ", which will present Art Nouveau tiles from the collection of SIA " Arhitektoniskās izpētes grupa ".
In the exhibition "Tiles" in the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" a part of the voluminous collection of tiles created by SIA "Arhitektoniskās izpētes grupa" (AIG) will be on view, it will give a small insight into the luxury of the staircases of the Riga buildings of the Art Nouveau period.
At the beginning of the 20th century, tiles decorated the walls and floors of the stairwells of many houses in Riga, unfortunately, not all houses have these beautiful interiors preserved to this day. At the exhibition, it will be a great opportunity to get an idea of the former splendor of the Riga Houses by looking at the wall, floor and kitchen tiles made in various factories in Germany (NSTG, SOMAG, etc.), which once decorated the interiors of the Riga Houses.
During its existence, SIA "Arhitektoniskās izpētes grupa" (AIG) has conducted research in more than 1,000 buildings in Riga and throughout Latvia, and has accumulated a wide and unique collection of construction and decorative finishing materials. It should be noted that none of the items in this collection were specially taken out of the interior of the house, they were removed as unnecessary and redundant during building repairs or reconstruction works, and were thus saved from destruction.
This exhibition will be the first opportunity for the wider public to get acquainted with the tile collection of SIA "Arhitektoniskās izpētes grupa".
The exhibition at the "Riga Art Nouveau Center" museum can be viewed until July 2, 2023. The museum is open from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. every day except Mondays.
