Museum invites you to visit this show where it is possible to get aquatinted with strongmen from the beginning of the 20th century who had practiced martial arts and weightlifting to win contenders and popularize Riga’s name. For the first time it all is set in the Art Nouveau atmosphere.
In the turn of the centuries sports flourished and several martial arts and weightlifters societies and clubs were founded and competitions organised.
There are medals, awards, posters, photographs and sports tools – all designed in the Art Nouveau style - featured in this exhibition.
The exhibition was prepared in collaboration with Aleksey Kostyrev, the Latvian Sports museum and the Circus of Riga.
