From February 2 to 28, 2023, the exhibition "Million Candles" at the gallery on the 1st floor of the Riga Culture and Recreation Center "Imanta".
At the exhibition visitors will be able to see candles of various shapes and colors created by the association "Latvian Movement for Independnet living". On October 30, 2019, the association launched the campaign "Million candles for a group home" to raise funds for the creation of a new, modern, unprecedented service in Latvia - a group home for young people with very severe developmental disabilities (mental retardation, cerebral palsy, autism, Down's syndrome, etc. ). The main task of the group home is to provide the opportunity for people to fully integrate into society, even if the daily support required is very high.
By creating and selling candles for the donations the association has already collected 250,000.00 EUR and continues to prove that no dream is too big and out of reach, and no work is impossible.
The Association is still trying to do everything in their power and persistently makes candles. One of the most important tasks is to emotionally support families who need this service right now. The members of the association say: "For example, we have families where parents in thirty years have never been able to go on vacation together, we have a grandmother who is over 80 years old and her only dream is to see a safe future for her granddaughter. We feel a great responsibility for the lives of these families in the future."
