From 6 December in Riga Art Nouveau Museum
In the centre of the celebration there will be a Christmas tree decorated in the tradition of the early 20th century. Each room will feature an unusual atmosphere and special, Paris-inspired interior decors. Children will be engaged in making gifts, there will be gingerbread smell in the air and music will be playing.
The Christmas exhibition series of the museum will start on 6th December with the interior decor exhibition “Christmas Interior Decorations in Inspiration by Paris” created by architect Liesma Markova in co-operation with the teacher of Riga School of Nature Wisdom Elita Logina and pupils from the school. In the exhibition hall of the museum the visitors will be able to see a hundred-year old decorations and objects with winter motifs from the collections of Riga Art Nouveau Museum and the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation. The exhibition “Winter”, in its turn, will feature winter landscapes grasped by photography artist Raimo Lielbriedis by using the photo technologies of the 19th and beginnings of the 20th century.
We would particularly like to invite visitors to attend the museum on 14th and 21st December when creative workshops will take place all through the day: at 11.00 Kristīne Šice, textile artist of the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, will run a workshop in the spirit of the 20th century beginnings where the participants will design Christmas decorations and greeting cards; at 14.00 the cooks from SIA “Ekovirtuve” will host the gingerbread decoration workshop where participants will decorate gingerbread made of bio-farming produce and will be allowed to take the decorated gingerbread with them.
The day will finish at 16.00 with a musical event “Christmas music saloon” with the participation of violinists Lienīte Kostanda and Eleonora Pīrāga from Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. The saloon spirit of the beginnings of the 20th century will be facilitated by the theatrical performances staged by Ieva Grundšteina.
The smallest friends of the museum are welcome to the morning event for children "Christmas Fairy-tales” which will take place at 12.00 on 15 December.
The entrance to all events is with the entrance ticket to the museum.
The number of participants in the creative workshops and music event is limited. Please book your place in advance – by phone 25421844 or e-mail baiba.buceniece@riga.lv.
