In the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" on October 22, 2022 at 11.00 creative workshop "Making your own bookmark!". During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to get to know the letterforms of the Art Nouveau period and make a personalized bookmark with the letters and ornaments of the design created by Jūlijs Madernieks.
Museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center" invites both young and old to the "Make your own bookmark!" workshop. Although reading habits compared to a few decades ago, not to mention the Art Nouveau period at the beginning of 20th century have changed, the time spent with a book is still special and meaningful. A bookmark is a great helper in it.
In order to get a closer look at the letterforms created by the Latvian artist Jūlijs Madernieks (1870 - 1955), the museum offers the visitors of the creative workshop one of the alphabets published in the Art Nouveau ornament collection "Ornaments" (1913). Ornaments of lines, geometric shapes, including stylizations of nature motifs, are a source of inexhaustible creativity. Allowing for creativity and flight of fantasy, participants will be invited to make a bookmark with their initials, a monogram and an ornament of their choice, create unique rhythmic compositions and mosaics using the letters and ornaments created by the Jūlijs Madernieks.
During the workshop, participants will be able to learn more about the traditions of using letters in Art Nouveau architecture, marking the ownership of art and household objects, and elsewhere. The workshop will be led by Iveta Sproģe, project manager of the museum "Riga Art Nouveau Center".
