On February 4, 2023 at 14.00 concert performance "Raiņa Daugava" in the Great Hall of Riga Culture and Leisure Center "Imanta".
The concert performance is made by the group of tradition collectors "Silavoti" together with their friends, combining the poetry of Rainis with Latvian folk songs. The themes raised in Rainis poem "Daugava" are still relevant today and now, they evaluate the importance of the nation and human existence and make us realize why we live in this world.
Rainis wrote the poem "Daugava" in exile in Castagnola. Most of the poem was written in 1916. The dramatic poem "Daugava" is permeated by the motif of the threat to the nation's existence and the need to defend itself.
"Silavoti" was formed in September 1991 as a singing group of God bearers, which sings about the annual rites, performs ancient rituals, thus keeping alive the folk tradition of singing the Lord's messages. The founder of the "Silavoti" group is Dzidra Jansone, whose work is now being continued by her two sons - Ramants and Daris. The group performs a lot of concerts throughout Latvia.
This year marks the 32nd year since the foundation of the group "Silavoti". The participants themselves say the following: "Throughout these years, we have been updating the preservation of the message of Latvian life, maintaining the Latvian tradition and collecting the legacy of songs in the amount of more than 300 songs." The group of tradition collectors "Silavoti" is working on the preparation of materials and the publication of the nine songbooks on the Latvian life. The "Book of Midsummer Songs" will be the first.
