Until 13 September everybody is welcome to visit the “Retrospection” exhibition in museum “Riga Art Nouveau Centre”
Along with the arrival of summer a “Retrospection” – a bounteous and colourful exhibition of Art Nouveau collection has been opened in museum “Riga Art Nouveau Centre”. This is the first time the museum has offered such a large exhibition from its holdings. Since its establishment in 2008 the museum has regularly and systematically collected objects from the beginnings of 20th century thus creating the only and biggest collection of this kind in Riga. At the moment the collection exceeds 5000 units and is descriptive of the flourishing and development of the “beautiful epoch” art style in Riga, Latvia and elsewhere in Europe.
The exhibition offers to examine various interior objects and china, pieces of art, household objects and handicraft inspired by the flowing lines of nature and folk patterns thus characterizing the daily routine of the inhabitants of Riga more than 100 years ago. At the beginning of 1900s industry flourished in Riga therefore in the centre of the exhibition there is Kuznetzov porcelain as well as the produce of Jaks & Co and Ilguciems Glass Factory. Represented are the china and interior objects used in the households of the population of Riga, however manufactured in other best known European factories. Pieces of art and magnificent embroidery, Art Nouveau book designs, toiletries for ladies and gentlemen, greeting cards and photos let us learn about the expressions of Art Nouveau in unique handicrafts as well as in industrial produce, in shapes and lines and in the finest details and plots of object designs.
