From March 9 to 27, 2016, the Rīga Art Space (Kungu Street 3 in Rīga) is proud to present a joint exhibition by Klāvs Loris and Paula Pelše as part of the venue’s Creativity Programme. Titled “Mutualism,” the exhibition features paintings and graphic art that focuses on interactions between people and nature
Graphic artist Paul Pelše and painter Klāvs Loris have merged photography, offset printing, coal drawings and painting for this first joint exhibition. The original artworks and ambient sounds are part of an installation that seeks to capture the moment of confluence between people and natural processes, with the artists trying to draw close to the point where absolute synergy can be transferred into visual form.
The artists have created vibrations of sign and sound, with artworks that involve plywood upon which soil, moss, trees, sand and human flesh merge into a single whole. This has been a process of phases, with one of the artists starting the work, and then the other taking it over and developing it. Klāvs and Paula continued to send the artworks back and forth until they reached the desired stage. The process was chosen to materialise the idea of confluence between two artists and their artworks, merging the documentation of the process into a personal exhibition.
