On Saturday, 16 August, from 13.00 to 18.00, everybody is welcome to the traditional art nouveau festival “100 Years Ago in the Albert Street”
In the Albert Street the city inhabitants and guests will find themselves in the 100 years old past when the art nouveau buildings were under construction, dressed-up citizens were having a walk along the street, maids were rushing to do the shopping, the Gorodovoj was looking after order and the Street Sweeper – after cleanness, the Architect and Engineer were searching for a new inspiration for building bridges.
The guests of the festival will be delighted by a splendid art nouveau fashion show, brisk and trendy dances of Riga, playing of music, joke makers and the travelling puppet theatre, magic tricks, auction of useful things and a visit to a fortune-teller. Newspaper boys will be offering the latest “Rīgas ziņas”. At the “Pretty Milliner’s workshop” the guests will be able to decorate their brought-along hats in the art nouveau manner. Basket makers will be making dolls and rattles from canes and in the painting workshop everybody will be able to take part in making a joint picture. The smallest guests of the Festival will have an opportunity to make their own wind-mill.

Rīga Festival is offered by Rīga City Council in co-operation with Rīga Free Port Authority and Riga Tourism Development Bureau. It is organized by Education, Culture and Sports Department of Riga City Council together with the enterprises and NGOs designing specific events.
