Riga Art Nouveau Museum presents gowns and accessories from the collection of Alexandre Vassiliev
This summer, the elegant interior of Riga Art Nouveau Museum has flourished in an unprecedented glory - it is enriched by authentic gowns of the 20th century from the collection of the world known fashion historian Alexandre Vassiliev. Dresses and parasols fill the living room, the fireplace room and the dining room. Meanwhile the exhibition hall is filled with fans and purses complemented by fashion accessories from the Art Nouveau museum collections. Authentic historical costumes and the Museum interior complement each other creating a unique atmosphere and preserving the novelty of the Art Nouveau.
Alexandre Vassiliev, is known as a fashion historian, interior decorator, stage designer, an author of popular books and articles, a prominent lecturer and a collector. He was born in Moscow on December 8, 1958 in a family of theatre artists. In 1982 he moved to Paris, created more than 100 decorations for the leading opera and ballet theaters all over the world. He is also an author of numerous books. The fashion artist is a frequent guest of Riga where he gives lectures. His collections featuring various periods in history are truly welcomed by the city residents and its visitors. During his visit to the Riga Art Nouveau Museum in 2011 Vassiliev was impressed by its interior. As a result a successful cooperation between the artist and the museum began.
The exhibition in the Riga Art Nouveau Museum is created in cooperation with the Latvian National Museum of Art. It is complementary to the temporary exhibition Art Nouveau Fashion displayed in the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design .
The exhibition is opened from June 16 to October 28
